Privacy Policy

JP Used Motors and Machinery operates jpusedmotoresandmachines.co.za. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. It is written to align with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). Last updated 2 September 2026.

Who is responsible for your information

JP Used Motors and Machinery, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, is the responsible party. You can reach us at jpusedmotorsandmachinery@gmail.com or on 063 576 3538.

What we collect

  • Quote and enquiry details. Your name, phone number, email address, delivery town, the part or machine you are asking about, and anything you tell us in the message field.
  • Order details. Billing and delivery information needed to invoice you and get goods to you, and your VAT number if you give us one.
  • Website usage. Standard server logs and, if you accept cookies, basic analytics about which pages are visited.
  • Correspondence. WhatsApp messages, emails and call notes relating to your enquiry.

We do not knowingly collect information from children, and we do not collect special personal information as defined in POPIA.

Why we collect it

  • To identify the correct part for your vehicle or machine and prepare a quote.
  • To arrange delivery or collection and to invoice you.
  • To honour warranty claims, which requires us to keep a record of what we sold you and when.
  • To meet our record-keeping obligations under South African tax and consumer law.
  • To reply to you when you contact us.

Who we share it with

We share only what is necessary, and only with parties who need it to do the job:

  • Courier and freight companies, so they can deliver to you.
  • Our hosting provider, which stores this website and its database.
  • Our bank and accountant, for payment and statutory record keeping.

We do not sell your personal information, we do not rent mailing lists, and we do not pass your details to other parts dealers.

Where your information is stored

Website data is stored on servers operated by our hosting provider. Some of our service providers may process data outside South Africa. Where that happens we rely on the provider being subject to laws or binding agreements that give substantially similar protection to POPIA.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not become orders are kept for up to 24 months so we can pick up the thread if you come back to us. Records relating to actual sales are kept for at least five years, because tax and consumer legislation requires it.

Cookies

This site uses cookies to keep your quote list working between pages and, if you consent, to measure which pages people find useful. You can accept or decline non-essential cookies using the banner, and you can clear cookies at any time in your browser settings. Declining will not stop you browsing or requesting a quote.

Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, to ask us to delete it where we are not legally required to keep it, and to object to us processing it. Email jpusedmotorsandmachinery@gmail.com and we will respond within a reasonable time.

If you are not satisfied with how we handle your request, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.

Security

This website is served over HTTPS and access to the admin area is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not send us bank card numbers or identity document numbers by email or WhatsApp. We never ask for them.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
